Adam Leroy Lane was a serial killer who operated in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Connecticut in the early 2000s. He was responsible for the murders of at least three women and is suspected of other crimes as well. Lane's crimes typically involved the abduction, rape, and murder of young women.
Lane's first known murder was in July 2007, when he killed Darlene Ewalt in his truck after abducting her from a supermarket parking lot in Pennsylvania. He later murdered two other women, both in similar fashion.
Lane was eventually caught in Connecticut after attempting to abduct another woman. He was sentenced to life in prison for his crimes in each of the three states where he committed murders.
Lane's case is particularly disturbing because he was able to evade capture for so long and because of the brutality of his crimes. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and claimed to hear voices telling him to kill. Lane died in prison in 2019 of an undisclosed illness.
